CineLot and SonicOrigin Bring AI-Era Content Protection and Global Film Identity to Independent Filmmakers

CineLot integrates SonicOrigin's patented invisible watermarking technology, C2PA Content Credentials, AI-use declarations, and EIDR registration directly into its film festival platform, giving independent filmmakers easier access to professional content protection and film identity tools.

LOS ANGELES - August 2026 - CineLot, a film festival submission and management platform, today announced a partnership with media-authenticity company SonicOrigin to bring content protection, provenance, and global film identification tools directly to independent filmmakers.

Through the partnership, CineLot filmmakers will be able to access SonicOrigin's patented invisible watermarking technology, C2PA Content Credentials, an AI “Do Not Train” declaration, and EIDR registration within the CineLot workflow.

The goal is simple: make tools that have traditionally been difficult for independent filmmakers to access easier to use at the point when their films begin entering festivals, screenings, and the broader marketplace.

CineLot serves a global community of filmmakers and festivals. Instead of requiring filmmakers to navigate multiple vendors and technical processes, the integration brings these tools closer to the film submission and screening workflow.

Protecting a Film as It Begins to Move

Once a film begins circulating, it can pass through festival submissions, screeners, reviewers, programmers, platforms, buyers, and other industry partners.

At the same time, generative AI has created new concerns around content scraping, unauthorized AI training, provenance, and the ability to establish where digital content originated.

The CineLot and SonicOrigin partnership addresses these challenges through several complementary layers of content identity and protection.

Invisible Watermarking — SonicOrigin's patented technology embeds a traceable identifier into the content, helping establish another layer of identification for the protected asset.

C2PA Content Credentials — Cryptographically signed credentials help preserve verifiable provenance information associated with digital content, providing a stronger record of its origin and history.

AI “Do Not Train” Declaration — Allows filmmakers to clearly communicate that they do not authorize their work to be used for AI training without permission. The declaration does not technically prevent an AI system from accessing or training on content; rather, it provides a clear expression of the filmmaker's usage preference and intent.

EIDR Registration — Gives an eligible film a globally unique, persistent entertainment identifier that can help platforms, distributors, partners, and media systems consistently identify the same work and connect it with accurate metadata.

For independent filmmakers in particular, CineLot sees EIDR as an important part of the solution.

Rather than requiring filmmakers to navigate industry registration processes on their own, CineLot is making EIDR registration more accessible within a workflow they already use, helping independent films establish a professional identity earlier in their lifecycle.

“Independent filmmakers should not have to wait until they secure a major distribution agreement to establish the identity and provenance of their work,” said Apple TungFong, Founder and CEO of CineLot. “A film begins moving through the industry long before a distribution deal happens. Our goal is to give filmmakers practical access to these tools earlier, so their work is better prepared as opportunities develop.”

Building a Stronger Digital Identity for Independent Film

Together, the tools are designed to help filmmakers establish the identity of their work, preserve provenance information, communicate AI-use preferences, and prepare more consistent metadata for future licensing and distribution.

They are complementary tools, not a replacement for copyright registration, and no technology can guarantee that unauthorized use will never occur.

“Creators need practical ways to preserve provenance and communicate how their work may be used as it moves through the digital supply chain,” said Marc Gray, CEO of SonicOrigin. “Integrating our technology into CineLot puts those capabilities inside a filmmaker workflow without requiring a separate technical process.”

Michael Pollack, CEO of Pollack Films, also sees the partnership as a practical step for independent creators.

“Artificial intelligence and the expanding digital marketplace have increased the risks filmmakers and rights holders face,” Pollack said. “The SonicOrigin technology available through CineLot gives creators a practical and cost-effective way to strengthen the identity and protection of their work.”

Producer Clark Peterson, whose credits include the Academy Award-winning film Monster, said establishing film identity earlier can also help filmmakers prepare for professional distribution.

“A filmmaker's work can pass through many hands and systems before it reaches an audience,” Peterson said. “Establishing provenance, usage preferences, and a consistent industry identifier early gives filmmakers a stronger foundation as they pursue festivals, buyers, and distribution.”

Protection Built Into the Filmmaker Workflow

CineLot brings film festival submissions, judging, programming, ticketing, and screenings into one platform. Filmmakers can upload their films and materials once and keep them screening-ready as they pursue festival opportunities.

The SonicOrigin integration adds another layer to that workflow: helping filmmakers establish content identity and provenance before their work begins circulating more widely.

For CineLot, the larger goal is not to make independent filmmakers become experts in content-protection technology.

It is to make professional tools easier for them to access.

Protect the film. Establish its identity. Keep it ready for what comes next.
